April 7. Free Blood Pressure Screenings. The Watervalley Clinic will perform free screenings from five to seven prior to the PTA Meeting at Watervalley Elementary. Parents are advised to leave overactive children with a sitter so that accurate readings can be obtained.

This month’s agenda will include a discussion to repeal recently implemented regulations governing the raising of chickens in residential areas. This has been prompted by the lawsuit filed against the city by Sadie Lumpkins regarding the confiscation of her pet chicken, Henny Youngman. Henny remains in the custody of the Watervalley Animal Control department but reportedly has been on a hunger strike for the last week.

April 24. Memorial Day Parade Organizing Committee. The local chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Watervalley chapter of the Grand Lodge of Free and Associated Masons will be hosting an organizing meeting to plan this year’s Memorial Day Parade. Both organizations include the same four members, but that’s supposed to be a secret. The meeting will be held at the Memorial Building at seven o’clock. The public is invited.

April 29. Dance Recital. The Center Stage Dance Academy and Gymnastics will be hosting their spring recital at the Watervalley Elementary Auditorium at seven o’clock. The theme of the spring recital is “I Believe I Can Fly” with short vignettes from the story, Peter Pan. Celebrated local dancer, Mary Ann Marshall, formerly of the Atlanta Ballet, is now assisting dance instructor Twyla Parker and will be part of the performance. The Peter Pan theme should prove to be greatly entertaining for the men of Watervalley, many of whom have never grown up themselves. Admission is free.

See you next month!
